Auction opens on July 7th / End on July 22nd starting at 3PM EST

Description

LOOKING TO HAVE A WOODY IN YOUR BEACH HOUSE??  HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT!
EXTREMELY RARE!    BISHOP MUSEUM READY!

This is a super rare, hand shaped balsa surfboard by Hobie Alter.  This board was featured in “The Ultimate Guide to Vintage Surfboards and Collectibles” pg 251.   All dings fixed and re-glossed in the 80’s and this board has been in storage ever since.  Beautiful woodwork and logo down by the tail.  The wooden slot style fin box with removable fin was an experimental design in 1954, hence the Hobie logo but no number.   There was no number assigned to the board as it was a concept board. “This was a good start to a great idea , but the concept was shelved because the fins were only secured by wedging them in the box with material like cardboard, so of course the fin kept falling out” Hobie opened his first shop n 1954 in Dana Point California after his inspiring trip to Makaha.   Of course, you will receive a copy of the book “The Ultimate Guide with the purchase of the board to complete the package.

Length 10’0.
